Nocturne and Humoresque Op. 10 (Flute and Piano) by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), Published by SparksFlute, Transcription by Mark Sparks, Originally for Piano solo.

"Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) composed the Nocturne and Humoresque for solo piano in 1871-2 while he was staying in Nice, France. The pieces were first published separately, then together as the Deux Morceaux (Two Pieces) in 1876. The composer also arranged the Humoresque for violin and piano, as it had become one of the composer's more popular works in France; the middle section is based upon a French folk song. The adaptation of these light works for flute and piano is completely natural, given the ability of the flute to achieve consummate delicacy in the Nocturne, and lighthearted playfulness in the Humoresque. These delights make perfect encore pieces, or lend the ideal touch of charm needed for the flutist's recital program." - Mark Sparks
