Concerto In E Major (Flute and Piano)

The Concerto in E major for flute and orchestra by Saverio Mercadante, together with two other homonymous compositions (in e minor and in D major), forms a trio of pieces dedicated to this instrument composed by the Master from Altamura. They were written for the amateur flutist Pasquale Bongiorno, evidently greatly admired by Mercadante, and they are a noticeable contribution to the flute literature. The cadenza of the second movement, suggested but not written, was added by the editor but the present edition (the first) remains faithful to the original autograph manuscript kept at the Library of the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Naples from which the present arrangement for flute and piano was made.
