Concerto for Flute and Orchestra (Flute and Piano)

$49.00

Concerto for Flute and Orchestra (Flute and Piano) by Krzysztof Penderecki, Published by Schott, Includes flute part and piano score.

Written for Jean-Pierre Rampal toward the end of his career, this 1992 work by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki (b. 1933) exemplifies the avant-garde style of the late 20th Century in a way that at least flirts with atonality, but in a much more approachable way than other works couched in “Modernism.” The opening has a curious and conversational quality, with short recurring motives passed off seamlessly between all the members of the chamber orchestra. The conversation crescendos, abruptly turning into a spooky, barren soundscape evocative of the aftermath of World War II - a modern, tragic aria that commiserates with other members of the orchestra.
