Honami (Flute Alone)

Honami (Flute Alone) by Wil Offermans (b. 1957), published by Zimmermann, includes flute part only.

Ho and nami are two Japanese characters and stand for spike and wave. In combination, Honami denotes the wavy swing of a flowering rice field, moved by the wind. The wind is the cause, the rice field is the medium and the wave-shaped oscillating movement the result. In the piece, the flutist has to use his breathing in a similar manner: Breathing is the cause, the score is the medium and the sound of the flute is the result.
